College and University Counselling

We provide college and university career counselling to help you connect your interests, values and strengths to a program that will lead you to a meaningful and satisfying career. It is normal for students to struggle with choosing the right program because they need help identifying their interests and skills and they are unaware of the many options available to them. Others lack confidence in themselves or worry what family or friends think. In some cases, they may even fail to see the benefits of post-secondary education.

Stats

According to Statistics Canada;

  • 9% of undergraduate students drop out after their 1st year; 20% switch programs after 2 years.
  • 40% of undergraduate students finish their degree in 4 years; 74% finished within 6 years (average time to completion is 4.49 years)
  • For college students, 9% switched programs after 1 year, and after 4 years only half of the original cohort graduated with their degree.

According to Canada's Youth In Transition Survey:

  • 60% of post-secondary students graduate from a different program than the one they first started
  • 25% of college and university students try three or more programs

Seek counselling if you:

  • wonder if you have the skills and abilities to be successful in a challenging program
  • worry that you won't find work when you graduate
  • struggle to choose between several different interesting options
  • lack confidence and feel stuck while your friends seem to be moving on
  • worry about wasting time or money on a program that's not for you
